Greta Thunberg’s Gaza Aid Mission Blocked By Israel Amid Naval Standoff
Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz has firmly stated that an aid vessel carrying Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg and other campaigners will not be permitted to enter Gaza. The boat, named Madleen, is part of a mission by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition to breach Israel's long-standing naval blockade and deliver humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian territory.
Katz emphasized on Sunday that the blockade was essential to prevent Hamas from acquiring weapons, reaffirming that no one would be allowed to undermine this security measure.

The Madleen set sail from Sicily last Sunday, with 12 activists on board. Their goal is to enter Gaza's territorial waters and draw global attention to the worsening humanitarian crisis in the enclave, while also delivering aid supplies. Among those accompanying Thunberg is Rima Hassan, a French Member of the European Parliament of Palestinian descent. She has been banned from entering Israel due to her outspoken criticism of Israeli policies toward Palestinians.
This initiative follows a previous failed attempt by the same coalition last month, when another vessel in their flotilla was attacked by two drones in international waters near Malta. The strike, which the group attributes to Israel, left the front of the boat damaged, halting its journey.
While Israel has recently eased its complete blockade to allow limited basic aid into Gaza following a three-month total closure, aid agencies continue to warn of an impending famine unless broader access and a permanent end to the conflict are secured.
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition's latest attempt is seen as both a humanitarian effort and a symbolic challenge to the naval restrictions, as international pressure mounts over the dire conditions in Gaza.
