Judge Halts Graceland Foreclosure Sale as Presley Estate's Lawsuit Advances
In a significant development that has caught the attention of Elvis Presley fans worldwide, a judge has intervened to halt the foreclosure sale of Graceland, the iconic Memphis tourist attraction and former home of the king of rock 'n' roll. The Shelby County Chancellor, JoeDae Jenkins, issued a temporary injunction against the auction scheduled for Thursday, citing potential fraudulent actions by Naussany Investments and Private Lending in their attempt to claim ownership based on allegedly fake documents.

The controversy began when a public notice earlier in May disclosed that Promenade Trust, which oversees the Graceland museum, was in debt of $3.8 million from an unpaid 2018 loan. Riley Keough, Presley's granddaughter and an actor, inherited the trust and ownership of Graceland following her mother, Lisa Marie Presley's death last year. The lawsuit filed by Keough last week accused Naussany Investments of presenting fraudulent documents regarding the loan in September 2023.
Despite Naussany Investments' motion to deny the lawsuit's allegations and oppose the estate's request for an injunction, their efforts were unsuccessful. In a statement to The Associated Press after Wednesday's ruling, a representative from Naussany announced the company would withdraw all claims "with prejudice," acknowledging that legal action would need to be filed in multiple states due to the key document and loan being recorded and obtained outside Tennessee.
The court documents revealed inconsistencies and questionable practices by Naussany Investments, including addresses linked to post offices in Jacksonville, Florida, and Hollister, Missouri, without any registration in state databases of corporations. Furthermore, Kimberly Philbrick, the notary whose name appeared on Naussany's documents, denied ever meeting Lisa Marie Presley or notarizing any documents for her.
Graceland has been a museum and tourist attraction since 1982, honoring Elvis Presley who passed away in August 1977. It attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. Elvis Presley Enterprises reassured fans that Graceland would continue its operations as it has for over four decades, allowing visitors from around the globe to experience the legacy of Elvis Presley.
This legal victory for the Presley estate not only preserves a significant piece of cultural history but also demonstrates the importance of vigilance against fraudulent claims on such treasured landmarks. As Graceland remains a beloved site for Elvis enthusiasts worldwide, this incident underscores its enduring value to both Memphis and music history.
