Gaza's Blockade Amid Israel-Palestine War With Orders To Evacuate 1.1 Million, Rejected By Hamas
In response to the Israeli order to evacuate 1.1 million civilians sourth from Northern Gaza in 24 hours, Hamas has vehemently rejected the evacuation demand, asserting their commitment to remaining on their land and in their homes. They have stated, "There will be no displacement."
Hamas also said, "Our people reject the threat of the occupation (by Israeli) leaders and (the) call to flee to the south or Egypt,...We are steadfast on our land and in our homes and our cities." Their resistance is largely due to the immense challenge of relocating such a vast population within a short timeframe during an ongoing conflict.

The United Nations has expressed its concerns, emphasizing that forcing the displacement of over a million people, especially under these circumstances, could result in "devastating consequences." The UN added, "... impossible for such a movement to take place without devastating humanitarian consequences,"
The logistics and safety of moving men, women, children, and vulnerable individuals amid Israeli bombardments are significant challenges.
ABOUT THE GAZA STRIP:
Gaza's geographical isolation compounds the predicament. The region, measuring only 41 kilometers in length and six to 12 kilometers in width, is surrounded by closed borders. Israel controls the land borders to the north and east, while the Egyptian border to the south remains sealed.
The Mediterranean Sea to the west is also inaccessible. Gaza's airspace is under Israeli control, and the local airport was destroyed in 2022. This isolation leaves Gaza heavily reliant on Israel for essential resources, including food, fuel, medicines, and drinking water, along with support from international aid agencies.
WHAT ABOUT ISRAEL'S DEMANDS?
Israel's demand for a substantial evacuation poses considerable challenges, given the limited entry and exit points for Gazans. The primary access points, the Erez Crossing in the north (controlled by Israel) and the Rafah Crossing (controlled by Egypt), have been closed to those seeking to escape the conflict. Kerem Shalom, another crossing controlled by Israel, is typically used for transporting goods.
WHAT ARE THE EVACUATION OPTIONS?
Evacuation options for Gazans are severely constrained. Israel has ruled out opening Gazan airspace or allowing access via land or sea routes, and the Israeli military maintains control over the border crossings, effectively confining the population. The establishment of humanitarian corridors to facilitate civilian evacuations is the only potential option, but Israel has shown no willingness to permit this on its side.
Egypt, as the remaining possibility for establishing such corridors, has thus far rejected this approach. This stance has raised questions about the commitment to Palestinian rights and land, as Egypt has historically imposed restrictions on Gazans' access to its territory, making it a challenging option for escaping the conflict.
As the Israel-Hamas conflict escalates, the situation in Gaza remains precarious. Israeli ground operations are expected to follow a week of relentless aerial strikes, resulting in a high number of casualties. Tanks and armored vehicles massing at the Gaza border signal an intensification of the conflict, prompting concerns about the safety and well-being of civilians caught in the crossfire.
The global community closely monitors the situation with mounting concern, underscoring the urgent need for diplomatic efforts to alleviate human suffering in Gaza and find a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
