The Hamas-run Gaza government media office stated, "The Israeli strikes targeted the displaced people while performing Fajr (dawn) prayers, a matter that led to a rapid increase in the number of casualties."

This tragic incident is part of a series of recent attacks on schools in Gaza. On August 4, two schools in Gaza City serving as shelters for displaced people were hit by an Israeli strike, resulting in 30 deaths and numerous injuries.

A day earlier, Hamama School in Gaza City was struck, killing 17 people. Additionally, on August 1, Dalal al-Mughrabi School was targeted, leading to the deaths of 15 people.

Israel has been conducting airstrikes on various buildings across Gaza, including schools, justifying these actions by claiming that "terrorists" are operating from within these premises, particularly from "Hamas command control centres."

This military offensive began last October following a deadly attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7, which killed approximately 1,200 people and resulted in 250 others being taken hostage.

The conflict, now in its tenth month, has claimed the lives of over 40,000 Palestinians in Gaza. Despite numerous rounds of negotiations, no ceasefire has been reached, and the violence continues to devastate the region.
