First licensed marijuana store opens in US

Denver, Jan 3: America witnessed a new beginning in its drug culture when the world's first state licensed marijuana store opened for the public in Colorado on Wednesday.

The store, that opened on New Year's day, threw its arms open for customers who lined up outside the store as early as 8 am. The store has acquired legal permission to sell pot for recreational purposes.

Marijuana cultivation, posession and its consumption for personal and private reasons by adults was made legal in Colorado about a year back.

Many customers who waited long hours outside the store welcomed this move and said that they wanted to be among the first ones to buy marijuana without being prosecuted for it.

Colorado became the first place in the world to sell pot on par with alcohol sales in the country with proper taxes and production. The store management said that it had taken help from a private security firm in case they faced any parking or traffic issue.
