Film 'Friday the 13th' loses its heroine Betsy Palmer

Connecticut, June 1: Mrs. Voorhees aka Betsy Palmer- the world famous actress from the 1950 horror flick Friday the 13th breathed her last at the age of 88 at a hospice care center near her home in Danbury, Connecticut.

She started humbly as a TV anchor but proceeded to rule the domain for the next five decades with some of the most-watched flicks like "Wheel of Fortune" and TV game show "I've got a secret'.

In an interview Palmer had said that she had landed with the movie at a crucial time when she had a broken car and wanted a new one. Moreover, she also wanted to break the stereotype surrounding her that she was suitable for roles of a girl next door.

In the movie, she plays Mrs Voorhees who is a mother-turned-murderer.
