Firefighters Battle Engulfing Flames
On Monday, February 20, at approximately 4:23 a.m., firefighters rushed to a residential building in Ferguson after receiving reports of a fire. Upon arrival, they encountered a structure engulfed in flames, making it challenging to enter and rescue any potential victims.
Five Found Deceased Inside
Tragically, the search efforts by firefighters revealed the presence of five deceased individuals within the home. St. Louis County police Sgt. Tracy Panus confirmed the discovery, stating that the cause of the fire is considered suspicious based on evidence found at the property. However, she refrained from providing further details, citing the ongoing investigation.
Victims Yet to be Identified
As of Tuesday morning, the identities of the victims had not been officially released by the police. However, relatives and neighbors have identified the woman as Bernadine Pruessner, who resided in the home with her four children. Pruessner's father, Cordell Beache, expressed his grief and described his daughter as an exceptional person with intelligent children.

The news of the tragedy has deeply affected the Ferguson community. Neighbors and acquaintances of the family shared their shock and sorrow. Jerry McClure, a neighbor who witnessed the fire, recounted his attempt to assist in waking the occupants but was hindered by the intense smoke and flames.
Family Remembers Precious Moments
Beache recalled spending time with the family on Sunday evening, watching two of the children, 9-year-old twins Ellie and Ivy Pruessner, play soccer. They later enjoyed dinner together. In addition to the twins, the family included 5-year-old Jackson Spader and 2-year-old Millie Spader.
Investigation Underway
Authorities, including St. Louis Regional Bomb and Arson detectives, are actively investigating the cause of the fire. The community awaits further information as the investigation progresses.
