FBI Takes Charge In Probe Of Shooting Incident At Trump's Pennsylvania Rally
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is leading the investigation into the shooting at a rally for former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump was shot in the right ear during the event, and the shooter was killed on site. One attendee also died, and two others were injured.
In a statement, the FBI said, "The FBI has assumed the role of the lead federal law enforcement agency in the investigation of the incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred earlier today in Butler, Pennsylvania."

Federal Agencies Respond
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the US Secret Service are collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to investigate this life-threatening attack on Trump. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N Mayorkas confirmed their involvement.
Trump was injured during his election rally when multiple shots were fired towards the stage from an elevated position outside the venue. The incident occurred around 6:15 pm, according to the US Secret Service.
Law enforcement officials reported that Secret Service agents shot and killed the suspected shooter at the scene. Trump, aged 78, is reportedly safe following this assassination attempt. "He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility," said Steven Cheung, Trump's spokesperson.
Swift Action by Law Enforcement
"We condemn this violence in the strongest possible terms and commend the Secret Service for their swift action today," Mayorkas stated. He added that they are working closely with President Biden, former President Trump, and their campaigns to ensure safety and security.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin also condemned the violence, stating it has no place in US democracy. "This is not how we resolve our differences in America," Austin said. "I'm relieved that reports indicate former President Trump is safe, and I am praying for him and his family and everyone affected by this appalling incident."
Attorney General Merrick B. Garland mentioned that multiple federal agencies are working together on this case. These include the FBI, ATF, US Attorney's Office for Western District of Pennsylvania, and others.
Condemnation from Officials
"My heart is with the former President, those injured, and the family of the spectator killed in this horrific attack," Garland said. "We will not tolerate violence of any kind; such acts are an attack on our democracy." He assured that every available resource would be used in this investigation.
The National Task Force on Election Crises strongly condemned the attack during Trump's rally where supporters were exercising their right to peaceful assembly. "Our thoughts are with former President Trump and other innocent victims of this horrific act of violence," they stated.
A law enforcement source informed Fox News that two additional casualties from the shooting are being treated at a hospital in Pittsburgh.
This tragic event underscores the importance of maintaining security at political events to protect all participants from harm.
