FBI Arrests Teresa Youngblut for Fatal Shooting of Border Patrol Agent David Maland in Vermont

A woman from Washington state has been arrested by the FBI in connection with the fatal shooting of a US Border Patrol agent in Vermont. Teresa Youngblut, aged 21, faces charges for the killing of Border Patrol Agent David Maland on Monday. The FBI revealed that Youngblut and a German man, who also died during the incident, had been monitored for several days before the confrontation.

FBI Arrests Woman for Border Patrol Agent Shooting

Agent Maland stopped Youngblut and Felix Baukholt on Interstate 91 in Coventry due to Baukholt's expired visa. According to an FBI affidavit, Youngblut fired at Maland and other officers during the stop. Baukholt attempted to draw a weapon but was shot. It remains unclear which bullets struck whom, as at least one border agent returned fire on Youngblut and Baukholt.

Surveillance and Suspicion

The pair had been under "periodic surveillance" since January 14. This followed a report from a hotel employee who noticed Youngblut carrying a gun and both individuals wearing tactical gear. Investigators tried to question them, but they refused to engage in a detailed conversation, claiming they were in the area to purchase property.

Two hours before the shooting, investigators observed Baukholt leaving a Walmart in Newport with two packages of aluminum foil. He was seen wrapping unknown items while sitting in the passenger seat of their vehicle. This activity raised further suspicions about their intentions.

Items Found in Vehicle

Authorities discovered various items in their car, including a ballistic helmet, night-vision goggles, respirators, and ammunition. They also found shooting range targets, some of which had been used. Additionally, two-way radios and about a dozen electronic devices were recovered along with travel and lodging details for multiple states and an apparent journal.

The investigation continues as authorities piece together the events leading up to the tragic incident. The FBI is working to determine the exact sequence of events and motivations behind the actions of Youngblut and Baukholt.
