Fatal Paris Apartment Explosion And Fire: Three Killed In Tragic Incident

An explosion followed by a blaze in an eight-storey building in Paris on Sunday evening resulted in the deaths of three people, as reported by Le Parisien, a French daily newspaper.

The origin of the blast, however, remains unknown at this time. The building, situated in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, experienced an explosion of undetermined origin followed by a fire on the 7th floor of Rue de Charonne, as reported by ANI.

According to Luc Lebon, deputy mayor of the 11th arrondissement, neighbors are puzzled as there is no gas supply in the building to explain the explosion. Despite residents' assertions, authorities have not discounted the possibility of a gas-related incident, as per ANI reports citing local newspaper.

An investigation into the incident has been initiated for "destruction by fire or dangerous means" and "involuntary homicide," with detectives from the capital's 2nd judicial police district tasked with determining the cause of the explosion, according to reports from Le Parisien.

Following the explosion, occupants of nearby buildings were evacuated but later permitted to return to their homes. Further details are awaited.

Meanwhile, this marks the third instance within a few years of an explosion occurring within a structure in the capital resulting in multiple fatalities. Further, according to the local reports, earlier on January 12, 2019, an explosion occurred on Rue de Trevise, resulting in four deaths. Similarly, last year on June 21, 2023, 277 rue Saint-Jacques was also subject to an explosion that claimed three lives.
