Facebook takes blame for brief outage, says it learns from such episodes

Sources in the Facebook told AFP that the problem started late on Wednesday while updating the configuration of one of the software systems.

They said people began to face problem in accessing Facebook soon after the changes were made but the problem was quickly spotted and fixed. The popular social networking site was back to normal in less than 30 minutes, they claimed.

It was said on behalf of Facebook that such instances do not occur often but when it does, Facebook makes all efforts to learn from the experience, the AFP report said.

The half-an-hour outage affected the social media giant's website and mobile apps. Users found an error message "Sorry, something went wrong" while trying to access Facebook. "We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can."
The news about the rare error in the world's most popular social platform also went viral on Twitter.

Facebook has a user base of 1.2 billion people.
