Elon Musk's Key Role In Shaping Trump's Foreign Policy: What It Means
Since the November 5 elections, Elon Musk has found himself playing a key role in shaping U.S. foreign policy under President-elect Donald Trump.
The Tesla CEO, known for his business acumen and strong opinions, has been appointed to lead the newly-formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), signaling his growing importance in the Republican leader's administration.

Musk's direct involvement with foreign leaders suggests his potential influence in Trump's foreign policy decisions. Since the election, he has met with several high-profile figures from around the world, hinting at a new level of international diplomacy for the tech mogul.
Musk Meets Foreign Leaders
Musk's first notable meeting after the election was with Argentina's President Javier Milei. The meeting took place at a gala dinner hosted at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort, where Milei publicly praised Musk for his contributions to "saving humanity." Musk and Milei, who share a strong personal bond, have met several times in the past, and their interactions have been widely celebrated by both sides.
In another significant diplomatic move, Musk met Iran's UN Ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, just a day before being appointed to head the DOGE department. Reports suggest the meeting focused on reducing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, with Musk reportedly initiating the meeting and Iravani selecting the location.
Musk Joins Trump's Official Calls
Musk's involvement extended beyond face-to-face meetings. He was reportedly part of a call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after Trump's victory in the election. While Musk was not directly on the call, sources say Trump and Zelenskyy spoke briefly with Musk, who was likely nearby. Zelenskyy even thanked Musk for the Starlink satellite service, which has played a significant role in supporting Ukraine's communications during the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Strained Relations with UK's Starmer
While Musk's international engagements have been focused on enhancing U.S. foreign relations, his interactions with certain leaders have been less amicable. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has had a contentious relationship with Musk, especially after Musk made controversial remarks about the potential for civil unrest in Britain following protests in August.
Despite some diplomatic tensions, Musk's expanding influence and his proximity to Trump suggest he will continue to play a major role in shaping U.S. foreign policy moving forward. His ability to engage directly with global leaders, particularly in sensitive geopolitical issues, positions him as a key figure in the Trump administration's approach to international relations.
