Elon Musk Claims 'Woke Mind Virus' Has 'Killed' His Son: What Does He Mean?
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk recently made a striking statement, alleging that the "woke mind virus" had figuratively "killed" his son, Xavier.
During an interview with Dr. Jordan Peterson on Monday, Musk expressed regret over agreeing to gender-affirming care procedures for his son, now known as Vivian Jenna Wilson, describing them as "child mutilation and sterilization."

Elon Musk Claims 'Woke Mind Virus' Has 'Killed' His Son
Musk recounted how he felt "tricked" into consenting to these procedures, unaware of the implications at the time. "This happened to one of my older boys, where I was essentially tricked into signing documents for Xavier. This was before I understood what was going on. COVID was happening, and there was a lot of confusion. I was told Xavier might commit suicide if he didn't receive the care," Musk told Peterson in an interview with the Daily Wire.
He and Peterson labeled the "woke mind virus" as "evil," with Musk asserting that such procedures are conducted on children "far below the age of consent." Musk agreed with Peterson that advocates of these practices should face imprisonment. "I was deceived into doing this. I lost my son, essentially. The term 'deadnaming' is used for a reason-because your son is considered dead," he said.
Vivian Musk, previously Xavier, came out as transgender in June 2022 at 18 years old. She requested a legal name change from Xavier to Vivian and adopted her mother's last name, distancing herself from Elon Musk. Vivian's mother, Justine Wilson, a Canadian author, divorced Musk in 2008, as reported by India Today.
Understanding the 'Woke Mind Virus'
The term "woke mind virus," while ambiguous, is used by critics to describe what they see as excessively progressive or "woke" practices that negatively impact society and media. Musk has criticized the "woke mind virus" since 2021, calling it "one of the greatest threats to modern civilization," as reported by IndiaTV.
Since acquiring Twitter in 2022, Musk has pledged to restore "free speech" on the platform and has increasingly engaged in conservative political commentary. His criticisms of "woke practices" extend to gender-affirming care, which encompasses services that assist transgender and non-binary individuals in navigating their gender identity. Critics argue that such care amounts to child abuse, as reported by IndiaTV.
Musk also addressed 'deadnaming,' the act of referring to a transgender or non-binary person by their pre-transition name. This practice is considered harmful and can lead to harassment and discrimination. "I vowed to destroy the woke mind virus after that," Musk said, reflecting on his child's transition.
Relocating Headquarters Over Gender Laws
Last week, Musk announced the relocation of the headquarters of two of his companies, social media platform X and rocket company SpaceX, from California to Texas. This decision was driven by a new California law prohibiting school districts from requiring teachers to notify parents when a child changes their gender identity or sexual orientation. Musk cited this law as the "last straw."
"Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies," Musk said. The SpaceX and Tesla CEO has become increasingly vocal about political issues, often criticizing the Biden administration and Democratic positions on matters such as transgender rights and immigration, as per media reports.
Musk's outspoken stance and actions underscore his commitment to combating what he perceives as harmful societal trends, even as these moves continue to spark widespread debate.
