Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended heartfelt Eid al-Adha greetings to the people and government of Bangladesh in a letter addressed to Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the country's interim government.
Dated June 4, 2025, the letter conveyed Modi's wishes on behalf of the Indian government and its citizens. "On behalf of the people and the Government of India, I convey warm greetings to you and the people of Bangladesh on the auspicious occasion of Eid al-Adha," he wrote.

Highlighting the cultural and spiritual importance of the festival, PM Modi described it as a celebration of "timeless values of sacrifice, compassion, and brotherhood." He added that Eid al-Adha plays a vital role in India's diverse cultural fabric, being joyfully celebrated by millions of Muslims across the country.
"This holy festival is an integral part of the rich and diverse cultural heritage of India and is celebrated with immense joy and fervour by millions of people of Islamic faith across the country. It reminds us of the timeless values of sacrifice, compassion and brotherhood, which are essential in building a peaceful and inclusive world," the letter noted.
In response, Muhammad Yunus wrote back on June 6, expressing gratitude for PM Modi's thoughtful gesture. "Eid-ul-Azha is a time of reflection, which brings communities together... and inspires us all to work together for the greater benefits of the peoples across the world," he wrote.
Yunus further conveyed optimism about the ongoing spirit of cooperation between India and Bangladesh, noting, "I am confident that the spirit of mutual respect and understanding will continue to guide our nations to work together for the wellbeing of our peoples."
He concluded his response with warm wishes: "On this blessed occasion, I wish you, Excellency, good health and happiness and the people of India peace, progress, and prosperity."
The exchange of Eid greetings takes place amid ongoing political uncertainty in Bangladesh. Despite regional challenges, both countries continue to maintain strong diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations. The letters reflect mutual goodwill and a shared commitment to fostering cooperation for the benefit of both nations' citizens.
