Dubai's First Aerial Taxi Vertiport Approved for 2026 Launch Near International Airport
Dubai is set to introduce its first aerial taxi vertiport near Dubai International Airport. This development marks a significant milestone in urban aerial transport. The vertiport, designed to integrate with Dubai's skyline, aims to offer passengers a unique and efficient travel experience. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince and The Executive Council Chairman, has approved the project.

The vertiport will cover an area of 3,100 square metres. It will include dedicated zones for take-off and landing, aircraft charging stations, a taxi apron, and parking areas. The facility is expected to handle 42,000 landings and accommodate 170,000 passengers annually. Built to meet top global safety standards, the air-conditioned vertiport will be developed in collaboration with international partners.
Vertiport Infrastructure and Operations
Joby Aviation will be responsible for manufacturing and operating the aircraft. Skyports will oversee the design and management of the vertiport infrastructure. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will govern the project and ensure its integration with other transit systems. The service is anticipated to commence in early 2026.
The aerial taxi model, Joby’s S4, is an electric vehicle with zero emissions. It features vertical take-off and landing capabilities. Equipped with six rotors and four battery packs, it can travel up to 161 km at a top speed of 321 km/h. Designed for a pilot and four passengers, it operates at lower noise levels than helicopters.
Strategic Locations for Aerial Taxi Service
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General of RTA, stated that the initial phase will focus on four key locations. This will provide residents and visitors with a fast, safe, and integrated transport solution across Dubai. "This project aligns with Dubai’s vision of multimodal connectivity," he said.
The initiative aims to offer smooth access to other public and personal transport options like e-scooters and bicycles. Earlier this year, RTA signed an agreement to launch the aerial taxi service with several entities. These include the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), Skyports Infrastructure from the UK, and Joby Aviation from the US.
This ambitious project underscores Dubai's commitment to advancing urban mobility solutions. By integrating cutting-edge technology with existing transport systems, Dubai is poised to become a leader in aerial urban transport.
