Drone Targets Israeli Prime Minister's House as Strikes in Gaza Result in Over 50 Casualties

Israel's government reported a drone attack on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in Caesarea on Saturday. Fortunately, there were no injuries as neither Netanyahu nor his wife was present. The incident occurred amid ongoing hostilities with Hezbollah and Hamas, following the death of a Hamas leader involved in last year's October 7 attack. It remains unclear if the drone hit the house.

Drone Attack on Israeli Prime Ministers Residence

Hezbollah did not claim responsibility for the drone incident but confirmed launching several rocket attacks on northern and central Israel. This escalation follows Hezbollah's announcement of a new phase in their conflict. Israel responded by conducting airstrikes on Beirut's southern suburbs, targeting Hezbollah strongholds, according to Lebanese authorities.

Escalating Tensions with Hezbollah

The Israel-Hezbollah conflict has intensified, with Hezbollah planning more missile and drone attacks. Israel's military reported approximately 180 projectiles fired from Lebanon on Saturday. A 50-year-old man died from shrapnel in northern Israel, and four others were injured. In Kiryat Ata, a rocket landed, causing minor injuries to nine people.

Lebanon's National News Agency reported an Israeli airstrike in Baaloul village killed five people, including a local mayor. The Israeli military confirmed strikes in the Bekaa Valley. Additionally, an Israeli airstrike north of Beirut killed two people in a vehicle, according to Lebanon's health ministry.

Impact on Gaza

In Gaza, Israeli forces targeted hospitals and other areas, resulting in over 50 deaths within 24 hours. The Palestinian Health Ministry reported strikes on the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahiya and Al-Awda hospital in Jabaliya. Israel's military stated it was operating nearby but denied intentional targeting of these facilities.

The ongoing conflict has displaced over one million people in Lebanon, including around 400,000 children. Israel has issued warnings for evacuations in parts of Lebanon and claims to have killed Hezbollah's deputy commander in Bint Jbeil.

Hostage Situation and Humanitarian Crisis

Israel continues its offensive in Gaza following the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. Leaflets dropped by Israel depicted Sinwar dead, urging militants to surrender hostages for peace. Hamas insists hostages won't be released without a ceasefire and troop withdrawal.

Israeli strikes have killed over 42,000 Palestinians, with more than half being women and children, according to local health authorities. The war has devastated Gaza's infrastructure and displaced about 90% of its population of 2.3 million people.

The humanitarian situation is dire as residents struggle for basic necessities like food, water, medicine, and fuel. Internet networks were disrupted after strikes hit communication infrastructure in northern Gaza.

The possibility of regional war remains concerning as tensions escalate further. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed worries during a visit to Turkey. Meanwhile, Group of Seven defence ministers warned against further escalation leading to all-out war.
