Doval in China: Top diplomat Yang Jiechi discusses 'major problems' with NSA
Doval is expected to raise the Doklam standoff with his counterpart.
Beijing, July 27: National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, who is in China to attend the BRICS security summit, met China's top diplomat Yang Jiechi and discussed "major" bilateral problems on Thursday.
It was not immediately known whether the border dispute over Doklam came up for discussion.
Reports say that Yang brought up "bilateral issues" and "major problems" during the meeting.
Doval is expected to raise the Doklam standoff with his counterpart. The NSA has a set agenda and all eyes are on this visit as the tensions between the two countries is expected to come down.
There are a couple of points Doval is likely to raise on the Doklam issue. The first would be to work around a resolution and open a channel for talks. Former Research and Analysis Wing officer, Amar Bhushan told OneIndia that Doval would tell the Chinese that the Prime Minister is keen on resolving the crisis.
China has however made it clear that India will need to first pull out before both nations could work out a resolution.
