Donald Trump's Inauguration Moved Indoors To Capitol Rotunda Amid Severe Cold Weather Forecast

President-elect Donald Trump has announced that his inauguration ceremony will be moved indoors to the Capitol Rotunda due to a severe weather forecast for Washington, D.C., on Monday.

The announcement was made on Trump's social media platform, Truth Social, on Friday.

Inauguration Day is traditionally cold, but Monday's weather is expected to be particularly harsh, with a high of just -6°C (20°F), a low of -14°C (6°F), and strong winds, reported NBC News.

The last time an inauguration ceremony was relocated indoors was for Ronald Reagan's second term in 1985, when extreme cold also forced the cancellation of the inaugural parade.

"I have ordered the Inauguration Address, in addition to prayers and other speeches, to be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda, as was used by Ronald Reagan in 1985, also because of very cold weather," Trump wrote. "The various Dignitaries and Guests will be brought into the Capitol. This will be a very beautiful experience for all, and especially for the large TV audience!"

Trump emphasised the safety concerns posed by the Arctic blast sweeping the country.

"There is an Arctic blast sweeping the Country. I don't want to see people hurt, or injured, in any way," he added.

"It is dangerous conditions for the tens of thousands of Law Enforcement, First Responders, Police K9s and even horses, and hundreds of thousands of supporters that will be outside for many hours on the 20th (In any event, if you decide to come, dress warmly!)."

While the change will mean Trump misses the opportunity to gather a large crowd on the National Mall for his swearing-in, an achievement he has shown enthusiasm for in the past, he has made alternative arrangements for supporters.

On Sunday, Trump will hold an indoor rally at Capital One Arena in downtown Washington. He also announced that the arena would be open on Monday for supporters to view the inauguration live and take part in a Presidential Parade.

"We will open Capital One Arena on Monday for LIVE viewing of this Historic event, and to host the Presidential Parade," he posted. "I will join the crowd at Capital One, after my Swearing In."
