Trump Calls Jimmy Kimmel ‘Talentless’ as ABC Pulls the Plug on Late-Night Host

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has praised ABC for suspending late-night host Jimmy Kimmel's show. Trump, who has often clashed with Kimmel, mocked him on Truth Social and called the decision "great news for America."

Why ABC Suspended Jimmy Kimmel

The suspension came after Kimmel's comments about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. During his monologue, Kimmel accused Trump supporters of politicizing the case involving 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who has been charged with Kirk's murder in Utah.

Kimmel's remarks sparked anger from many groups, leading ABC to announce that Jimmy Kimmel Live would be pre-empted indefinitely.

FCC Warning and Complaints

Brendan Carr, chair of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), called Kimmel's words "the sickest possible." He warned that broadcasters could even lose their licenses if they didn't take action.

The Center for American Rights also filed a complaint, saying satire could not excuse violations of broadcasting standards.

Nexstar, a major operator of ABC affiliates, said it would not air Kimmel's show for now. An ABC spokesperson confirmed the suspension decision.

However, not everyone agreed with the FCC's strong approach. Commissioner Anna Gomez expressed concern, warning against using government power to suppress free speech.

Trump's Reaction

Trump celebrated the suspension, once again calling Kimmel "talentless." He congratulated ABC for what he described as a bold and much-needed move.

Kimmel's suspension comes as late-night TV faces other big changes. Recently, CBS announced it would cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2026 due to financial pressures.
