Dominica Recognises Prime Minister Modi's Contributions with Top National Award
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been honoured with Dominica's highest award for his efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic and his commitment to strengthening ties between India and Dominica. This accolade was presented by President Sylvanie Burton during the India-CARICOM Summit in Guyana, marking the final stop of Modi's three-nation tour.

Modi expressed his gratitude for receiving the award, dedicating it to India's 140 crore citizens. "Honoured to be conferred with highest national award by Dominica. I dedicate it to the 140 crore people of India," Modi stated in a post on X. The Ministry of External Affairs also acknowledged this recognition, highlighting Modi's statesmanship and dedication to enhancing India-Dominica relations.
International Recognition
In addition to Dominica, both Guyana and Barbados are set to bestow their top awards on Prime Minister Modi. This will increase his collection of international honours to 19. Dominica had announced its decision to confer this award on Modi a few days prior to the summit.
The Dominican Prime Minister's office released a statement noting that in February 2021, Modi provided Dominica with 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. This generous donation allowed Dominica to assist its Caribbean neighbours during the pandemic.
Support in Various Sectors
The award also acknowledges India's support under Modi's leadership in healthcare, education, and information technology for Dominica. His initiatives promoting climate resilience and sustainable development globally were also recognised. The statement from Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit highlighted that this honour reflects Dominica's appreciation for Modi's solidarity with both Dominica and the broader region.
Upon accepting the award, Prime Minister Modi stressed the significance of collaboration in addressing global challenges like climate change and geopolitical conflicts. He affirmed India's commitment to working with Dominica and the Caribbean on these pressing issues.
This recognition underscores India's growing influence and its role in fostering international cooperation. It highlights the importance of diplomatic relations in tackling global challenges collectively.
