Doklam standoff: China undertakes live fire drill, says India is in awe

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said, Chinese border forces were carrying out "normal" patrols on the Chinese side of the Pangong Lake located in Ladakh in the western Himalayas.

The Chinese have shown a five minute video of a military drill involving 10 PLA units to keep the Doklam standoff in an aggravated state. The Doklam standoff has entered into the second month and there has been no respite.

On Monday the Chinese foreign ministry said that India was to blame for the stone pelting that took place at Ladakh last week. On the other hand the Global Times while quoting experts said that the People's Liberation Army was conducting live fire drills in the western sector to strike awe in India.

Indian officials that OneIndia spoke with could not confirm the live fire drills. It may be an outdated footage, an official said. The official however added that the Chinese are trying to keep the standoff in an aggravated state and hence is putting out such propaganda material.

"During this time they were obstructed by Indian border forces and the Indian side took fierce actions, colliding with the Chinese personnel and having contact with their bodies, injuring the Chinese border personnel," she told a daily news briefing. What India did went against the two countries' consensus to keep the peace on the border and it endangered the situation there, she added, stating, "China is extremely dissatisfied with this".

Rajnath Singh said that a solution would come out soon. China will take a positive step from its side, the home minister said while addressing Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on Monday. "We want to maintain good relations with our neighbours. We don't want conflict, we want peace," he also said.
