Croatia to receive refugees from Turkey

Zagreb, April 6: Croatia will take in less than 500 refugees from Turkey as part of an agreement between the European Union and Turkey, Croatian Foreign Minister Miro Kovac has said.

Croatia has agreed to receive the refugees from Turkey and it would fulfil its commitment, he said on Tuesday, Xinhua news agency reported.

The country was expected to receive 1,600 refugees in total according to two plans -- relocation from one EU country to another and resettlement from third countries to the EU, he added.

There were less than 200 refugees currently at the Slavonski Brod refugee center, eastern Croatia, due to the closure of the Balkan route, according to Kovac.
