Covishield Maker AstraZeneca Admits Covid-19 Vaccine Can Cause Side Effects Like Blood Clotting

Covishield, the vaccine injected to millions of people during the Covid-19 pandemic, can cause a rare side effect, admitted the British pharma giant AstraZeneca in court in the US, according to media reports. Covishield's formula was developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University, later the Serum Institute of India produced the vaccine in large quantities and circulated widely in the country. Shockingly, the company said, in some cases, its Covishield can cause blot clots and low platelet count.

AstraZeneca was sued by several people in the UK court alleging that Covidshield caused untimely deaths and severe injuries and have asked for compensations up to 100 million pounds.

Jamie Scott, the first complainant to sue the vaccine maker, alleged that a blood clot in his brain occurred soon after he received the vaccine in April 2021 leading to a permanent brain injury. This affected his livelihood, he could not even work and the hospital even told his wife thrice that he is going to die soon.

AstraZeneca has contested the claims, but admitted in one of the court documents in February that Covishield can "in very rare cases, cause TTS", the report said.

TTS (Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome) causes blood clots and a low blood platelet count in humans, reports.

It is admitted that the AZ vaccine can, in very rare cases, cause TTS. The causal mechanism is not known...Further, TTS can also occur in the absence of the AZ vaccine (or any vaccine). Causation in any individual case will be a matter for expert evidence," AstraZeneca said.
