Congressman Thanedar Commits to Justice for Bangladesh's Hindu Minority
Indian American Congressman Shri Thanedar expressed deep concern over the recent surge in violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. In a video statement released on Friday, he vowed to continue his efforts until justice is served for the minority community. "We need justice for the minority Hindus. These are heartbreaking activities. This has to stop, and I'm on top of it," Thanedar stated.

Thanedar emphasised the unacceptable nature of these attacks and mentioned his ongoing communication with the State Department and international authorities. "The attacks on the minority Hindus are totally unacceptable. I am in touch with the State Department and authorities across the world. I am on top of it. And we will not stop until all of these things are addressed," he reiterated.
Efforts to Address Violence
Last year, Thanedar established the Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, and Jain American Congressional Caucus. This initiative aims to amplify the voices of religious minorities in the US and globally. The caucus seeks to address issues faced by these communities and advocate for their rights.
In a statement issued a day earlier, Thanedar called on the people and leadership of Bangladesh to end the ongoing violence in their country. "I am especially concerned about reports of attacks targeting the country’s Hindu minority. Accounts of temples destroyed, homes levelled and individuals targeted are as disturbing as they are reprehensible," said Thanedar, who represents Michigan.
Recent Incidents of Violence
Since former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled Bangladesh on Monday, media reports have highlighted an increase in violence against minorities. One notable incident involved massive vandalism at the residence of Rahul Anand, frontman of the popular folk band Joler Gaan. This attack forced Anand and his family into hiding.
According to a media report on Thursday, at least 232 people were killed in Bangladesh following Sheikh Hasina's departure on Monday. This brings the total death toll to 560 since anti-quota protests began in mid-July.
Thanedar's commitment to addressing these issues remains steadfast as he continues to work with various authorities to seek justice for affected communities.
