As rescue operations continue, the provincial governor, John Kabeya, confirmed the grim news on Tuesday. Initially, the death toll stood at 17, but five more fatalities were confirmed later in the day. The collapse of a wall in Bikuku claimed the lives of 10 individuals, all belonging to the same family, adding to the heart-wrenching toll.

Among the structures severely impacted by the recent flooding in Kananga are the Higher Institute of Technology, a church, and a major road that has been rendered impassable. Governor Kabeya emphasized the urgent need for intervention from the national government to address the devastating consequences of the floods and provide support to the affected communities.

Landslide Adds to Congo's Woes

Compounding the nation's challenges, a separate incident occurred in eastern Congo on Sunday, where heavy rains triggered a landslide that claimed the lives of at least four people, with approximately 20 individuals still missing.
