Washington, Feb 4: Peer support is a big thing in one's life, irrespective of the age. And for eight-year-old Luke Nelson, this support means a lot.

Classmates shave off heads to make 8-year-old boy who lost all his hair confident

The boy, a resident of Edmond in Oklahoma, United States, lost his hair to alopecia (loss of hair in round patches because of medical conditions) last year and it was quite a confidence-crushing episode of his life. He didn't leave his house without a hat but then who else could bolster him apart from his companions in such a situation?

According to a report in People.com, the Class III student had a tough experience to lose his hair, as his mother Susan revealed but then the family came to back the boy.

His seven-year-old brother Sam said he would also shave off his head since Luke had to shave his since he lost all his hair. It was then their father who chipped in and it became what Susan said a "family affair".

Then the solidarity stepped out of the Nelsons' home. Luke's classmates at Oklahoma Christian School also decided to boost their favourite friend's confidence and all of them too shaved their heads off.

"They really asked the questions like what could we do to really help Luke and make him happy. Once [Luke] found out that all of his buddies wanted to surround him like a band of brothers and shave their heads as well he just embraced it," Susan was quoted as saying.

The mass shaving off did wonder, especially for Luke who ripped off his hat and walked around with confidence and swagger, Susan was cited as saying.

The boy also said that it helped him feel better and offered to share his story with children like him who feel a loss of confidence.
