Authorities Discover 11 Clandestine Graves with 15 Bodies in Chiapas Amid Cartel Violence

Fifteen bodies were discovered in eleven hidden graves in Chiapas, a southern state in Mexico. This area is currently experiencing conflict between the Sinaloa and Jalisco Nueva Generación drug cartels. The discovery was announced by local authorities on Sunday.

11 Clandestine Graves Found in Chiapas

Chiapas Governor Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar shared on social media that the graves were found during a raid in La Concordia, close to the Guatemalan border. Four individuals were arrested, and weapons and drugs were seized during this operation.

Use of Technology in Investigations

The state prosecutors detailed that the raid occurred at two separate locations. At the first site, three bodies were found in three graves, while the second site contained eight graves with twelve bodies. "It is worth mentioning that for these operations technological tools such as drones and geo-radars were used, in addition to aerial overflight, ground search, field forensics, back-excavation and drills," stated the prosecutors' office.

Last week, Chiapas Prosecutor General Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca reported another clandestine grave with charred remains in Emiliano Zapata, near La Concordia. However, further details were not provided due to the poor condition of the bodies for identification.

Impact on Local Population

The ongoing conflict over drug routes, migrant trafficking, and weapons has displaced over 10,000 people in recent years. Many Mexicans have fled to Guatemala seeking safety, according to humanitarian organizations.

This situation highlights the severe impact of cartel violence on communities in Chiapas and surrounding regions. The use of advanced technology in these investigations underscores efforts to address these challenges effectively.
