Christmas 2024 In US: Over 40,000 Tree Light Controllers Recalled - Here's Why
As the festive season unfolds, a major recall has emerged for Christmas tree light controllers sold by prominent retailers, including Walmart, Target, and Cracker Barrel. Over 40,000 units of these wireless decorative controllers, which could potentially pose a fire hazard, are being pulled from the shelves.
The recall comes after multiple reports of the products overheating when connected to outlets, with one incident leading to a fire, although fortunately, no injuries were reported, as reported by Hindustan Times.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Mr. Christmas LLC, the company behind the product, issued the recall, warning customers about the risk of overheating. The affected controllers were sold between July and November 2024, and while the devices were manufactured in China, they were sold under various brand names across different retailers.
The recalled units were sold at Target under the Wondershop brand, at Walmart as part of the Mr. Christmas line, and at Cracker Barrel, where they were branded as "Christmas Light Controllers."
What's the Risk?
The issue lies with the wireless receivers in the controllers, which can overheat when plugged into an electrical outlet, presenting a potential fire risk. The company, Mr. Christmas, has received at least ten reports of overheating incidents. One of these incidents led to a fire, prompting the company to take swift action to protect consumers, as reported by Hindustan Times.
The Recall Process
In response to the fire hazards, Mr. Christmas has voluntarily issued a recall of the affected products, urging customers to stop using them immediately. The company has promised full refunds for those who return the controllers to the original point of purchase. Customers who purchased the items, priced between $25 and $40, can return them to Walmart, Target, or Cracker Barrel for a refund.
Mr. Christmas has reassured customers that products sold prior to 2024 are not affected by this recall, and they remain safe for use. The company's President, Leslie Hermanson, expressed the company's commitment to customer safety, highlighting that ensuring the well-being of families is their top priority.
Steps for Affected Consumers
If you purchased one of the recalled light controllers, you are encouraged to visit the CPSC website or the Mr. Christmas website for more information on how to return the product and receive your refund. Affected consumers can also check with the retailers where they made the purchase, whether it be Target, Walmart, or Cracker Barrel, as per media report.
The recall has highlighted the importance of consumer safety, especially during the holiday season when many families rely on decorative lights for their Christmas celebrations. Customers who own one of the affected units should act promptly to ensure they avoid potential safety risks.
As the holiday season continues, it's essential to be aware of product recalls and prioritize safety in all aspects of holiday decorations and appliances.
