China: Typhoon Haitang makes landfall in Fuqing
Beijing, July 31: Typhoon Haitang made landfall at 2:50 am local time on Monday in Fuqing City in China. This is the 10th typhoon in the region this year.
Packing wind of a maximum speed of 18 metres per second, the tropical cyclone came after the ninth one Nesat, which landed in the same city on Sunday, Xinhua news agency quoted provincial meteorological observatory as saying.
According to reports, residents in Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Nantou, Chiayi, Tainan and Taitung were advised to stay vigilant against downpours and strong winds.
Extreme torrential rain Sunday and Monday in Kaohsiung and Pingtung was forecast while torrential rain in Chiayi, Tainan and Taitung were anticipated. Possible geological disasters were also warned of by the weather authorities.
