President Xi Unveils New Cyber Warfare Wing In Chinese Military

Chinese President Xi Jinping has officially inaugurated the Information Support Force (ISF), a novel strategic division within the People's Liberation Army (PLA), marking a significant evolution in the military capabilities of the world's largest armed forces. This development, announced on Friday, underscores China's commitment to enhancing its military prowess through advanced information and cyber warfare capabilities. The ISF is set to play a pivotal role in modern warfare, acting as a crucial pillar in the integration and application of network information systems.

The establishment of the ISF represents a strategic move by the Chinese military, evolving from the Strategic Support Force (SSF) created in 2015. The SSF was initially formed to address space, cyber, political, and electronic warfare, aiming to equip China to engage in what has been termed "informationised wars." With the introduction of the ISF, the leadership and organizational structures of both the PLA Space Force and the PLA Cyberspace Force have been redefined, highlighting China's intent to streamline its military operations in these critical areas.
