China is resorting to psychological war, wants India to back off at Doklam: Sources

Experts in India say that China is now fighting a psychological war.

China appears to be applying psychological pressure on India through its media. On Wednesday, reports stated that there was major troop mobilisation by China towards the Line of Actual Control. It was also stated the Peoples' Liberation Army had conducted military exercises in Tibet.

India has however dismissed these reports and said that the movement is not unusual in nature. The manner in which reports have emerged from China, it is an indicator that they want to pressurise us to move away from Doklam, an Indian government official said.

    Experts in India say that China is now fighting a psychological war. The war is being fought through its state media and this is an attempt to get us to stand back at Doklam the source also added. Such exercises in Tibet by China are not new and it has been happening since 2009, officials said.

    Both countries have not moved away from their positions and the standoff is set to enter into its sixth week now. India on the other hand hopes that diplomatic channels would open up soon and the standoff would end. There needs to be a solution to the issue on the diplomatic front, officials said.

    A lot would be riding on the visit by National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval to China next week. Although the Doklam standoff is not part of the agenda, Doval is expected to raise the issue with his counterpart on the sidelines of the BRICS summit. We see a resolution in sight soon, a top official informed.
