China: Blast near US Embassy in Beijing

Beijing, July 26: An explosion has reportedly rocked the US embassy in Beijing on Thursday. The blast happened after a man reportedly through a homemade bomb into the gated area.

However, there was no immediate word about injuries or the cause of the blast, which happened around 1 p.m local time and was heard from blocks away.

It's reported the bomb exploded before the man could hurl it over the fence, injuring people and a police car in its path.

The US embassy complex is located in Beijing's Chaoyang District.

Witnesses have posted images on Twitter of smoke surrounding the building.
