Chester Breiney Buried in Wisconsin After 65 Years of Uncertainty Over His Identity
The remains of a young boy, identified as Chester Breiney, were laid to rest on Friday in Wisconsin. This marked the end of a lengthy investigation into a skeleton found decades ago. Initially known as Markku Jutila, his adoptive parents had given him this name when he vanished in 1959. However, recent DNA tests confirmed his birth name as Chester Breiney.

In 1966, Chester's adoptive parents faced charges related to his death. Despite their incriminating statements, the case was dismissed due to insufficient evidence linking them to the remains. The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office revealed that Chester likely endured significant neglect, as indicated by his dental condition and bone formation issues.
Community Support and Funeral
A funeral Mass took place at St. Peter of Alcantara Church in Port Washington, Wisconsin. The service included hymns sung by a children's choir and was attended by law enforcement officers and community members. "It's an interesting gathering," said Rev. Patrick Wendt during the service. "We want to thank you for surrounding him with that love and care that he didn't seem to have much of his life."
Generous contributions from the community made the burial possible. A local church donated the burial plot, while businesses provided a small white casket and grave marker. Chester's adoptive parents passed away in 1988, closing any possibility of future prosecution in this case.
Identity Confirmation and Investigation
The investigation into Chester's identity involved obtaining Michigan adoption records from the 1950s through a court order. These records revealed Josephine Breiney as his biological mother, with no father listed. Josephine Breiney died in 2001, leaving no living relatives behind.
The sheriff's office expressed hope for closure: "Chester may now rest in peace as the truth of his death is known. No child should leave this Earth like Chester did." Despite efforts to gather more information from investigators, no additional details were available on Friday.
Chester's story highlights the importance of community support and dedication to uncovering the truth. Although justice may not be served through prosecution, the community has ensured that Chester receives a dignified farewell.
