Caretaker PM Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar Ensures Uninterrupted Election Process Despite Alarming Border Situation

Despite escalating tensions at Pakistan's borders, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has assured that it will not affect the upcoming general elections. His statement comes amid calls for immediate poll date declaration by various quarters and ECP's decision to delay polls beyond constitutionally mandated period due to fresh delimitation of Constituencies based on new census.

The caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, has recently addressed the escalating tensions on the country's borders. Despite acknowledging the severity of these concerns, he assured that these issues would not interfere with the upcoming general elections in Pakistan.

Concerns over Election Delays

Pakistan General Elections

Kakar's comments come at a time when there is increasing demand from various sectors for an immediate announcement of the election date by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The ECP had previously stated that due to certain procedural requirements, elections would be delayed beyond the constitutionally mandated period of 90 days following the dissolution of National Assembly on August 9.

Delimitation and Its Impact

One major reason behind this delay is attributed to a fresh delimitation process initiated by ECP. This involves redefining constituency boundaries based on new census data. While this process is crucial to ensure fair representation across regions, it has inadvertently led to postponement of general elections.

A Proposed Timeline

In light of these developments, President Arif Alvi has proposed November 6 as a potential date for holding general elections. He cited constitutional provisions which mandate time frames for conducting polls. However, final confirmation awaits from ECP.

Promises Amidst Tensions

Kakar further reiterated his commitment towards ensuring smooth progression towards elections despite alarming situations on both western and eastern frontiers. He acknowledged increased security threats and emphasized on enhancing response mechanisms accordingly.

"I see no such possibility at present," said Kakar referring to potential disruptions in electoral processes owing to border tensions. "Although there is an alarming situation on our western and eastern frontiers in which the security threat and required response mechanism are being enhanced, we are sure."

In conclusion, while the situation on Pakistan's borders is indeed alarming, the caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has assured that it will not interfere with the democratic process. The ECP is working towards conducting a fresh delimitation of constituencies based on new census data which has led to a delay in announcing the election date. However, President Arif Alvi has proposed November 6 as a possible date for these elections. Despite potential security threats due to border tensions, Kakar remains confident about holding successful and fair general elections in Pakistan.
