Canadian PM Justin Trudeau And Wife Sophie To Call It Quits After 18 Years Of Marriage
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, revealed their decision to separate after 18 years of marriage through statements posted on Instagram on Wednesday.
The couple stated that the choice came after numerous meaningful and challenging discussions.

A legal separation agreement has been signed by both parties, according to a statement from the prime minister's office. Justin and Sophie got married in 2005 and are parents to three children: Xavier (15), Ella-Grace (14), and Hadrien (9).
Despite their separation, the couple emphasized that they will continue to be a close-knit family, with a strong focus on raising their children in a safe, loving, and collaborative environment. As they plan to spend time together on vacation starting next week, Justin Trudeau's office has urged the public to respect their privacy during this challenging period. Notably, Trudeau is the second Canadian prime minister to announce a separation while in office.
His father, Pierre Trudeau, the iconic Liberal figure, also went through a separation from his wife Margaret in 1979, leading to their divorce in 1984. Justin Trudeau's rise to power in 2015 carried echoes of his father's popularity, but scandals, voter fatigue, and economic challenges have contributed to a decline in his public approval over his eight-year tenure as prime minister.
