According to a release on Saturday by the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), an overnight homicide in the area was being investigated. Residents reported hearing gunshots around 11 pm on Friday, April 12, leading officers to discover Chirag Antil deceased inside a vehicle at East 55th Avenue and Main Street.

No arrests have been made yet, and the case is under investigation by the VPD. On Saturday evening, India's Consulate in Vancouver acknowledged the shooting and killing of Chirag Antil, an Indian national, expressing great sorrow. The Consulate has reached out to Canadian authorities for further details.

An online fundraiser has been initiated to cover the costs associated with repatriating the remains to India. Anurag Dahiya, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, created the fundraiser, noting that Chirag Antil arrived in Canada in 2022 as an international student pursuing an MBA at the University of Canada West. After completing his studies, he was on a work permit.

The appeal for assistance emphasized the urgent need to raise funds for sending Chirag Antil's body back to India following the tragic murder in Vancouver.

Varun Choudhary, the National Students' Union of India (NSUI)'s national president, has called for "urgent attention" to the murder case. He urged the Ministry of External Affairs to closely monitor the investigation's progress and ensure swift justice. Additionally, he requested the Ministry to provide necessary support and assistance to the deceased's family during this challenging time.
