Canada Explores Joining AUKUS, Signaling Strategic Shift in Indo-Pacific

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has shown interest in Canada joining AUKUS, a defense partnership led by the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. This alliance, established in 2021, initially aimed to create nuclear-powered submarines for Australia. It's now looking to grow, with Japan recently being invited to join. AUKUS is part of a trio of alliances formed in recent years to counter China's influence, including the Quad and Chip-4 (involving Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and the US). The US has played a key role in these alliances but has tailored its involvement based on its interests. While it revitalized the Quad with India's help, India was notably excluded from Chip-4. This selective approach by the US highlights its strategic priorities in the region.
