Gunman attack
Ottawa, Oct 23: The Canadian police did not release the name of one of the shooters who ran amok here on Wednesday, sources in the US revealed the suspect's name as Michael Zehaf Bibeau, a National Post report said. Bibeau was gunned down by sergeant-at-arms Kevin Vickers after he shot Cpl. Nathan Cirillo near the War Memorial in Ottawa.

The name of Bibeau, 32, a Canadian of Algerian descent who recently converted to Islam, was first broadcast by CBS, allegedly through the US intelligence sources, said the report. Later, news agency Reuters also backed the US sources' revelation.

It was said that Bibeau, who was reportedly born and brought up in Quebec, had a lengthy criminal past in places like Montreal, Aylmer, QC and British Columbia.

He had cases filed against him in the past for possessing drug items like marijuana and phencyclidine. Charges of robbery and issuing threats have also been made against him, records said.

The Globe and Mail cited confidential sources to report that Bibeau was a "high-risk traveller" whose passport had been seized to stop him from joining ISIS fighters in the Middle East.
