Canada attack: Gunman had a dark past, reveal reports
[Read: Canada can never be intimidated, says Canada PM]
The name of Bibeau, 32, a Canadian of Algerian descent who recently converted to Islam, was first broadcast by CBS, allegedly through the US intelligence sources, said the report. Later, news agency Reuters also backed the US sources' revelation.
It was said that Bibeau, who was reportedly born and brought up in Quebec, had a lengthy criminal past in places like Montreal, Aylmer, QC and British Columbia.
He had cases filed against him in the past for possessing drug items like marijuana and phencyclidine. Charges of robbery and issuing threats have also been made against him, records said.
The Globe and Mail cited confidential sources to report that Bibeau was a "high-risk traveller" whose passport had been seized to stop him from joining ISIS fighters in the Middle East.
