Turkiye Cable Car Tragedy: 1 Dead

The deceased was identified as a 54-year-old Turkish man by the state-run Anadolu Agency. The injured included Turkish citizens and one Kyrgyz national, underscoring the international impact of this unfortunate event. The Tunektepe cable car is a popular attraction that offers rides from Konyaalti beach to a restaurant and viewing platform at the summit of the 618-metre (2,010-feet) Tunektepe peak, managed by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality.

Emergency response teams were promptly dispatched to the scene to provide medical treatment and facilitate the evacuation of those injured. Visuals from the site showed the damaged cable car hanging precariously from dislodged cables against the rocky mountainside, with medical personnel attending to the wounded. Additionally, passengers in 35 other cable car pods found themselves stranded mid-air as engineers worked tirelessly to restore the system.

This incident has cast a shadow over what is typically a festive period for families visiting coastal resorts to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
