Building collapse, possible blast in New York's Upper Manhattan

, Mar 12: Reports of an explosion and a building collapse have been reported from Upper Manhattan in New York City.

Reports suggest that a blast occurred in an apartment building in Upper Manhattan at 9 am local time.

However it is not clear what is the cause of the explosion. Reports suggest that one person is dead and 11 people have been injured according to reports.

Onlookers said that they heard a huge explosion and smoke coming out of a building. New York firefighters are responding to reports of the building collapse and explosion.

According to CNN, there are 168 firefighters on the scene. Commuter rail traffic near blast site has been suspended as a precaution.
