Brown University Shooting: Police Release New Photos and Video of Suspect

The city, often celebrated for his humane courtroom rulings, is now in the spotlight for a far darker reason following a deadly shooting at Brown University that has shaken the community.

New Images Show Person of Interest Before Shooting

Federal and local authorities on Monday evening released new photographs of a person of interest connected to the shooting. Officials described the individual as a stocky man, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, seen walking down a street wearing a knit hat.

Law enforcement officials said the images were captured nearly two hours before the attack that killed two students and left nine others injured. The photos were unveiled during a Monday night press conference as investigators appealed for public assistance.

Video Footage Places Suspect Near Brown Campus

Along with the photographs, police also released video footage showing new angles of the person of interest walking along a sidewalk close to Brown University. The man is seen walking casually with his hands behind his back before crossing the street.

Authorities said the footage helps establish the individual's presence near the Ivy League campus around the time of the incident. Earlier in the day, another video was released that appeared to show the suspect calmly walking down the street shortly after the shooting.

Shooting Took Place During Examination Hours

The mass shooting occurred on Saturday at around 4 pm, when students were taking final examinations inside the engineering building on Brown University's campus. The incident prompted an immediate lockdown and a large-scale emergency response.

Students Muhammad Aziz Umurzokov and Ella Cook were killed in the attack. Nine other people were injured and remain hospitalised, officials confirmed.

Authorities Renew Appeal for Information

Investigators revealed that a person of interest was initially detained following the shooting but was released on Sunday night as the probe continued. Authorities stressed that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
