British PM Announces GBP 3 Million Funding to Enhance Protection for Jewish Communities
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced a new support package of GBP 3 million targeted at enhanced protection for the country’s Jewish communities against antisemitic attacks. The additional funding will be provided to the Community Security Trust (CST), enabling them to place additional guards at schools and increase security staff outside synagogues during prayers on Friday nights and Saturday mornings.
In the wake of the recent conflict in Israel, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced a new support package aimed at enhancing protection for the country's Jewish communities against antisemitic attacks. The package includes GBP 3 million in additional funding, which will be provided to the Community Security Trust (CST), an organization established to protect British Jews from antisemitism and related threats. The CST works closely with the police to provide security for Jewish schools, synagogues, and other community institutions.
Increased Antisemitic Incidents

The announcement comes as CST recorded a 400% increase in antisemitic incidents in the past four days compared to the same period in 2022. The additional funding will enable the CST to place additional guards at schools and more security staff outside synagogues during prayers on Friday nights and Saturday mornings.
Solidarity with Israel
Prime Minister Sunak expressed solidarity with Israel and condemned the recent terror attacks carried out by Hamas terrorists. He said, "This is now the third deadliest terror attack in the world since 1970. The United Kingdom must and will continue to stand in solidarity with Israel."
Zero Tolerance for Antisemitism
UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman, who chaired a meeting of senior ministers, police chiefs, and the CST, emphasized that there will be zero tolerance for antisemitism. She said, "Whenever Israel is attacked, people use legitimate Israeli defensive measures as an excuse to stir up hatred against British Jews. The UK stands unequivocally with Israel. I have been clear with police chiefs in England and Wales that there can be zero tolerance for antisemitism, and that they should act immediately to crackdown on any criminality – both in our streets and online."
Roundtable Discussion
The roundtable discussion covered expected protests and marches taking place across the UK this weekend. CST Chief Executive Mark Gardner welcomed the support from the government and police, saying, "The support that we and the Jewish community are receiving from across government and policing is greatly reassuring and welcome at this difficult and worrying time. We will work with the Home Office to ensure that this extra funding is used in the most effective way to enhance the existing security that is in place and provide the Jewish community with the protection that they need and deserve."
The British government's announcement of enhanced protection for Jewish communities is a positive step in addressing the rising tide of antisemitism in the country. The additional funding and security measures will help to safeguard Jewish institutions and ensure the safety of the Jewish community. The government's commitment to tackling hate crime and protecting Jewish communities is essential in promoting social cohesion and upholding the values of tolerance and respect.
