Bill Gates has acknowledged responsibility for his past association with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein during a town hall meeting with employees of the Gates Foundation, according to a spokesperson for the organisation.

In a written statement shared with Reuters on Tuesday, the spokesperson said Gates addressed the issue directly and accepted accountability for his actions related to the relationship. The comments came after a report by the Wall Street Journal, which said Gates had apologised to staff members for his previous interactions with Epstein.

The internal meeting was described as an opportunity for Gates to confront the controversy openly with foundation employees, amid continued scrutiny over his past judgment.
