Bill Gates Donates $50 Million To Support Kamala Harris' Presidential Bid: Report
Billionaire and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has reportedly donated $50 million to a nonprofit organization backing Vice President Kamala Harris' 2024 presidential campaign.
According to a report from The New York Times, Gates' donation to Future Forward, the primary fundraising group supporting Harris, was intended to remain private.

This marks a significant development, as Gates has not publicly endorsed a candidate in the past but has previously expressed approval when Harris became the Democratic nominee, noting it was "great" to see someone younger running for president.
Gates' Concerns Over Trump
In private discussions with friends, Gates reportedly expressed reservations about a potential second term for former President Donald Trump. Despite this, Gates emphasized his willingness to work with either candidate. He acknowledged that while he has maintained bipartisan relationships throughout his career, he views this election as being particularly critical due to its far-reaching implications, both for the United States and globally.
Gates' philanthropic organization, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has raised concerns about the impact of a Trump presidency on key issues such as family planning and global health initiatives, with the fear that these programs could face significant cuts.
A Bipartisan Approach, But "This Election Is Different"
In a statement responding to the New York Times report, Gates emphasized his history of working across political lines. However, he also acknowledged that this election carries unprecedented significance, particularly in areas such as healthcare, poverty reduction, and climate change. Gates noted, "I support candidates who demonstrate a clear commitment to improving health care, reducing poverty, and fighting climate change in the U.S. and around the world." He further stated, "This election is different, with unprecedented significance for Americans and the most vulnerable people around the world."
Harris Gains Support from Billionaires
Gates is among 81 billionaires who have reportedly thrown their support behind Harris in the upcoming November 5th election. Notable figures, including LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, are also backing her campaign. In contrast, Trump has the support of 50 billionaires, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk and hedge fund manager Bill Ackman.
A New Political Era?
Harris, who recently turned 60, was named the Democratic presidential nominee after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race earlier this year. Gates welcomed the prospect of Harris leading the nation, noting her potential to address modern challenges like artificial intelligence. While Harris represents a younger, dynamic figure, her rival, Trump, at 78, is the oldest presidential nominee in U.S. history.
This high-stakes election has become a battleground not only between two opposing political figures but also among some of the world's most powerful individuals, as they rally behind their chosen candidates.
Forbes recently analyzed the billionaire support in the race, revealing a significant divide between those backing Harris and those supporting Trump. As the election nears, the influence of these wealthy supporters may play a pivotal role in shaping the future leadership of the United States.
