Biden Declares Sinwar's Death a Significant Opportunity for Hostage Release and Ending Gaza Conflict

US President Joe Biden expressed that the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar by Israeli forces marks a "good day for Israel, for the United States, and for the world." He described it as a chance to liberate Israeli hostages held by Hamas and conclude the prolonged conflict in Gaza. Biden likened this event to the US's reaction following the death of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.

Biden Sees Hope in Sinwars Death for Gaza

Biden highlighted that Sinwar's demise demonstrates that terrorists cannot evade justice indefinitely. He plans to converse with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other leaders to commend them and discuss strategies for returning the hostages to their families and ending the war permanently. Biden sees Sinwar's death as an opening for a future in Gaza without Hamas's rule.

Opportunity for Peace

National security adviser Jake Sullivan referred to Sinwar as a "massive obstacle" to peace. He noted that Sinwar's removal offers a chance to progress towards peace and secure the hostages' release. Biden praised US special operations forces and intelligence operatives who supported Israeli allies in tracking Sinwar and other Hamas leaders over the past year.

The US acknowledged that while they provided assistance, the operation resulting in Sinwar's death was conducted by Israel. Biden emphasized that this development could lead to a political resolution offering a brighter future for both Israelis and Palestinians.

Biden intends to discuss with Israeli leaders how to leverage this opportunity for peace. He believes that with Sinwar gone, there is potential for a political settlement in Gaza, improving prospects for Israelis and Palestinians alike.

This event underscores the ongoing commitment of both nations to combat terrorism and pursue justice. The collaboration between US intelligence and Israeli forces highlights their shared goal of ensuring regional stability and safety.
