Biden's Record Fundraiser with Obama and Clinton Marks Historic Democratic Unity

New York, Mar 29 AP - In a significant show of unity and financial strength, President Joe Biden, alongside Democratic predecessors Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, hosted a record-breaking fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall. The event, which also featured Stephen Colbert as the moderator, raised an impressive $26 million, marking it as a historic moment for Democratic campaign fundraising. This gathering not only showcased the financial prowess of the Biden campaign but also aimed to demonstrate a unified front against the Republican opposition.

Following the fundraiser, President Biden addressed a select group of approximately 200 top donors and fundraisers in New York. He highlighted the unprecedented nature of the event and its success in rallying support for his reelection bid. "It's because of you that I can say that we've raised more money than any previous Democratic campaign in history," Biden stated, emphasizing the collective effort behind the campaign's financial achievements.

The Biden campaign reported having $155 million in cash on hand by the end of February, a figure that was bolstered by the proceeds from Thursday night's event. This financial milestone was presented as evidence of the Democratic Party's unity and contrasted with the challenges faced by former President Donald Trump and his political action committee, which reported having $37 million in cash on hand through February.

Despite moments of disunity during the event, marked by protests against the Biden administration's support of Israel in its conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Biden remained focused on presenting a united front. He also acknowledged Trump's early polling strength in key swing states but expressed confidence that his administration's achievements, particularly in managing the pandemic and maintaining economic stability, would bolster his standing among voters.

Biden seized the opportunity to address Trump and other Republicans' questions about whether the country is better off now than four years ago. He pointed to his administration's efforts to control the pandemic and keep unemployment low as indicators of progress. Looking forward, Biden posed a new question for voters to consider: "Will we be better off four years from now?"

This fundraising event and Biden's subsequent remarks underscored the strategic efforts of his campaign to rally support and resources for the upcoming election. By highlighting unity within the Democratic Party and contrasting their approach with that of Trump and his allies, Biden aims to solidify his position ahead of what promises to be a highly contested election.
