Biden In France: Warns Putin 'Won't Stop At Ukraine' In Joint Press Conference With Macron

US President Joe Biden has reaffirmed Washington's unwavering support for Kyiv amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia, and he issued a stern warning that Russian President Vladimir Putin's ambitions could extend beyond Ukraine.

This commitment was expressed during Biden's state visit to France, where he held discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron.

"Putin is not going to stop at Ukraine," Biden declared, highlighting the potential threat to the entire European continent. "All of Europe will be threatened, and we are not going to let that happen," he told journalists. He emphasized, "The United States is standing strong with Ukraine. We will not, I say it again, walk away."

President Macron, standing beside Biden, expressed gratitude for the US's partnership, stating, "I thank you, Mr. President, for being the president of the world's number one power but doing it with the loyalty of a partner who likes and respects the Europeans." as reported by Hindustan Times.

On Friday, both Biden and Macron met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris, where they reiterated their commitment to supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression.

Commitment in Historical Context

Biden, 81, has been in France since Wednesday, taking part in the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, a pivotal event in World War II that significantly changed the course of history. These historical ties were underscored in his remarks, drawing a parallel between the Allied efforts in World War II and the current support for Ukraine against Russian invasion, as reported by Hindustan Times.

A Battle for Democracy

During his visit, Biden underscored the importance of preserving democracy, drawing connections between the current conflict in Ukraine and past global struggles for democratic principles. He warned of the significant challenges ahead, especially as he prepares to face his Republican rival and predecessor, Donald Trump, in the upcoming presidential elections. Observers suggest that these elections could put US democracy to a stringent test, as per media reports.

Concerns Over International Cooperation

In light of the ongoing conflict, Biden's remarks also touched upon the importance of international alliances. His comments came against the backdrop of Trump's expressed scepticism toward international organizations, including NATO. This reflects broader concerns about the future of global cooperation and the US's role in international security frameworks.

Context of the Meeting

This state visit to France marks a significant moment in Biden's presidency, emphasizing the solidarity between the US and Europe in confronting the challenges posed by Russia's actions in Ukraine. The meetings with European leaders and the reaffirmation of support for Ukraine highlight the strategic importance of maintaining a united front in the face of potential threats to European and global stability, as per local media reports.

The commitment of both the US and its allies to standing with Ukraine and countering Russian aggression serves as a reminder of the ongoing geopolitical struggles and the need for sustained international cooperation to uphold democratic values and security.

"We have shown the world again the power of allies and what we can achieve when we stand together," said Biden.
