Ben Stokes Reveals His Home Was Burgled While Family Was Present During His Absence

England cricket captain Ben Stokes revealed that masked burglars broke into his home, stealing jewellery and "irreplaceable" personal items. The incident occurred while his family was at home, and he was away with the national team in Pakistan. Stokes shared this on Wednesday, stating the break-in happened on October 17 at his Castle Eden residence in northeast England.

Stokes was participating in the second test between Pakistan and England in Multan when the burglary took place. He had just rejoined the team after recovering from an injury. Among the stolen items was his OBE, a prestigious medal awarded on behalf of the country.

Emotional Impact on Family

"By far the worst thing about this crime is that it was carried out whilst my wife and 2 young children were in the house. Thankfully, none of my family came to any physical harm," he wrote on X. "Understandably, however, the experience has had an impact on their emotional and mental state. All we can think about is how much worse this situation could have been."

The burglars took jewellery along with other valuables and numerous personal items. Stokes emphasised that many of these possessions hold significant sentimental value for him and his family, making them irreplaceable.

Public Appeal for Assistance

Stokes, a celebrated World Cup winner with England and a prominent sports figure in Britain, decided to go public with this information to aid police efforts in apprehending the burglars. He released photographs of some of the stolen items to assist in their recovery.

"Although we have lost cherished possessions, to be clear, my sole motivation in sharing these photographs is not the recovery of material items. It is to catch the people who did this," he wrote.

Despite losing valuable possessions, Stokes's primary focus remains on ensuring justice is served by capturing those responsible for this distressing incident.
