Barack Obama Worked Against Kamala Harris After Biden Dropped Out From US Presidential Race, New Book Claims
Former US President Barack Obama actively opposed former Vice President Kamala Harris following President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, according to authors Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes in their new book.
In an interview with MSNBC, Allen, a senior political reporter at NBC News, claimed that Obama believed Kamala Harris would not be able to defeat Donald Trump.

"President Obama absolutely did not think that Joe Biden should continue, according to our sources close to President Obama," Allen told MSNBC.
"And he also didn't want Kamala Harris to be the replacement for Biden. He didn't think that she was the best choice for Democrats."
He alleged that Obama had been working behind the scenes, pushing for an open primary, as he lacked confidence in Kamala Harris's chances of winning against Trump.
"He (Barack Obama) worked really behind the scenes for a long time to try to have a mini-primary, or an open convention, or a mini-primary leading to an open convention, did not have faith in her ability to win the election," the author told MSNBC.
Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes's book, 'Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House', was published on April 1.
Allen told the broadcaster that Obama had been unwilling to endorse Harris when he spoke to the vice president on the day Biden withdrew.
Obama served as US President from 2008 to 2016.
Joe Biden, aged 82, pulled out of the presidential race last year following criticism from within his own party, after a disastrous televised debate against Trump, in which he appeared unable to effectively argue for a second term.
US Vice President Kamala Harris went on to secure the nomination but ultimately lost the election to 78-year-old Trump, who staged one of the most remarkable political comebacks in American history.
