Obama daughters face ire over dresses; Republican official apologises for comment

Washington, Dec 1: A Republican official has issued an apology to US President Barack Obama and his daughters - Malia, 16 and Sasha, 13 after her comments sparked outrage on social media.

It all began when Elizabeth Lauren, communications director for Congressman Stephen Fincher, made comments in a Facebook post, criticising both Malia and Sasha for their behaviour at the Thanksgiving dinner at the White House.

In her post on Facebook, which was deleted later, Lauren accused the two teenagers of looking bored when Barack Obama was at the traditional turkey pardoning event. In many photographs clicked at the event, both the girls look bored.

However, it was her comment at their dressing sense that kicked up a storm. Lauren in her post said: "Dear Sasha and Malia, I get you are both in these awful teen years, but you're a part of the first family, try showing a little class.

At least respect the part you play. Then again your mother and father don't respsct their positions very much , or the nation for that matter. So I'm guessing that you're coming up a little short in the good role model department.

Dress like you deserve respect and not a spot at the bar," an apparent reference to their short dresses.

Shortly after this, Lauren was criticised for her comments, which eventually forced her to pull down her post.
